At The Dangling Modifier, our overarching aim is not just publication, but also to empower undergraduate writers to pursue their goals with confidence and to embark on a journey of writing and publication long after their experience with The Dangling Modifier. To accomplish this, we prioritize two core values that drive our philosophy: connection and accessibility.
Connection. The Dangling Modifier aims to empower undergraduate peer writing tutors to share their stories, ideas, and experiences with the world, advocating for the recognition of undergraduate publishing as a valuable endeavor in the writing center field. Our multimodal blog format allows readers to connect with peer writing tutors nationwide, creating a vibrant community for sharing experiences, reflections, and strategies. We likewise want writers to feel engaged in their publication process through a peer mentoring model. Writers are assigned Process Mentors who meet one-on-one via Zoom to ensure writers learn and develop from initial draft to final product. We strive to foster meaningful connections for readers and writers, forging stronger bonds within the writing center community.
Accessibility. The Dangling Modifier strives to break down common barriers to undergraduate publication. We believe that all peer writing tutors, with their diverse identities and levels of experience, have a wealth of knowledge to share with the world. Through consistent connections with writing centers across the world, we aim to increase awareness of our publication among undergraduate tutors and create an environment where they feel confident in their writing. We encourage students to submit pieces in whichever mode or genre they are most comfortable expressing themselves. All writers’ voices are essential for sparking conversation and change in the writing center community, and we are here to amplify those voices.
